Transition Pieces

With autumn just around the corner and winter sure to be here before we know it, I've been thinking of recently what are the items that would be perfect staples for winter that I should invest in, yet am able to start wearing now. So I had a bit of fun on Polyvore and created a few Autumn/Winter outfits centred around a key item...
How to wear The Ankle Boot.
Autumn - Contrast with denim cut offs and a basic tee, with a statement jewellery piece (or pair with a girly mini dress to be a bit bohemian!)
Winter - Pair with your favourite skinnies and an oversized coat to keep the bulky silhouette at the top of the body to create the illusion of thinner legs!
How to wear The Denim Jacket.
Autumn - Make it preppy with a white button-up collared shirt and dress shorts (blue is a key colour this season)
Winter - Contrast with a maxi dress in a bright colour or bold pattern, add some round sunglasses and a floppy felt hat for a touch of festival chic.
How to wear The Fur Vest.
Autumn - Make it your statement piece by layering over neutral colours, add a pop of interest through your shoes and jewellery.
Winter - Time to go crazy with a bright, colourful patterned pant and bold, eccentric accessories.
How to wear The Jumper.
Autumn - If the jumper is long, wear it as a dress with a chunky shoe. Otherwise pair with some cut-offs and sandals on a warmer day.
Winter - It's all about layering so add a jacket, scarf and beanie on top, and a skirt over some rad stockings and/or socks and an awesome pair of dressy sneakers.
How to wear The Leather Pant.
Autumn - They're still a bit too warm to wear casually so save them for a cooler night out by wearing them with a glam, embellished top, dainty jewellery and basic black ankle boots.
Winter - Add more texture with a suede top and a shaggy wool or fur jacket!

Hope you enjoyed this post and are having a great week!

This Week I Am...

Inspired By...the streetstyle photos emerging from fashion weeks across the globe. It is these people who I believe are setting the real trends, as they are usually just normal people who are interpreting what they see on the runway into something of their own. A post I am doing soon about trends for Autumn/ Winter 2013 is largely inspired by what real people, not just the models, are wearing!
Wanting...a leather beanie. Last week it was a leather cap but after seeing this photo I was instantly inspired as I never thought a beanie would look so good in a leather form.
Wearing...my new boots from Sportsgirl. From the first moment I saw them and tried them on I was in love. They are such an unsual style and colour in a deep plum red, and something that I never expected Sportsgirl to sell, but they make for a great dressy winter boot.
Listening to...Suit and Tie by Justin Timberlake Feat. Jay-Z. When I first heard this song I thought it was totally boring. However after being bombarded by it on the radio, I have grown to love the slow beat and have realised that I missed hearing JT's music.
Happy Monday!

Sunday Market Haul: Part 5

It has been cold the past couple of days so when I left my house for the markets at 5:50am this morning I was glad I had decided to wear jeans and a wooly cardigan. I do love summer, the heat and going to the beach, but I can't wait until winter, when I am able to layer my outfits I am in my element.
So last week at the markets I was purchasing pieces mainly in warmer tones like brown, however today I did just the opposite, opting for cool silver tones and trusty black. The above shorts I have a little DIY planned for so stay tuned!
This top is the perfect mix of knit and sparkle, and I look forward to wearing it with perhaps some white shorts or jeans and chunky, matte, black jewellery.
When I showed my dad this jacket he hated it thinking it was a bit too '80s. He's right but for $3 I want to make this work. I am inspired by the streetstyle photos of models off duty in their skinny black jeans, a basic tee, a large leather jacket with a colourful scarf thrown in on top.
It is hard to see the texture of these velvet leggings, but you can trust me when I say that they are the softest velvet I have ever felt.
These are the most killer shoes for just $5. I love the fur detailing and I tried them on earlier with the velvet tights and a white shirt, and they made for an awesome outfit I can't wait to wear!
Finally the little jewellery bits and pieces I picked up today, some awesome metal band rings, an unusual geometric necklace, and a bangle that the girl I bought it off said was from India.

This week also starts the first of many tips to come for when you go shopping at the markets...
Tip One: Set limits for yourself. Only take a small amount of money with you and try not to spend over a certain amount on any one item. For instance I usually only take down $30 and I try not to spend over $5 on any item, to keep it cheap for myself and to use the money at a different stall!

Time To Reflect...

Reflective sunglasses, to me, are no longer associated with the tacky, ski goggle-like sunglasses that my dad used to wear, having been transformed into a sunglasses style that is sleek and sporty, and can add a pop of colour to every outfit. My little collection currently consists of a simple silver mirror pair (top) from an op shop, a blue pair (middle) from Sportsgirl and a red pair of aviators (bottom) off eBay.
Reflective sunglasses have been a great trend to play around with this summer, and I believe I will be able to carry it through well into winter as I have seen many people on streetstyle blogs wearing them while rugged up in their oversized coats and beanies.

Happy Friday and have a great weekend!

Late on the Bandwagon

As per usual I start to like a trend or a style well after its few weeks of fame in the fashion world. Perhaps it's a subconscious desire to follow the trends that everyone is loving, yet still wanting to be unique... So remember over a year a go now when the Isabel Marant Dicker Boots were a favourite among fashion bloggers everywhere? I bypassed that trend in favour of my trusty black ankle boots. However after recently seeing the 'Emma' shoe in Sportsgirl and trying it on, I knew I was ready to branch out of my black boot rut and give these a go. I find that the taupe colour makes this a more casual, daytime shoe, something that I can pair with a pair of cut off shorts and an oversized tee.
Another awesome addition to my boot collection!
I googled the Isabel Marant boot to find some inspiration on how I can style it with my outfits...

Hope you all are having a good week!

This Week I Am...

Inspired By...all black and all leather looks. Black is my favourite colour (tone?) to wear as I find that it is always flattering and easy to dress up or down. Leather is also a great texture that I am so glad has come back in fashion with full force this season, with anything and everything being made into a leather version.
Wanting...a leather cap. There are a few on eBay I have my eye on, but what is preventing me from clicking that buy button is me questioning the praticality of a leather hat. What to wear it with, would it be too hot in the heat, would it look ridiculous in the winter? What's your opinion on the matter?
Wearing...a stacked wrist. I know this trend has been around forever and is nothing new, however it is only recently that I have realised how easy it is to just throw on a couple of bracelets and be ready to go. I try to match my bracelets to my watch, depending on its colour, and also try to have one statement bracelet.
Listening to...Just give me a reason by Pink and Nate Ruess. Just an awesome song that I love to belt out in the shower or car.

Happy Monday and have a great week!

Sunday Market Haul: Part 4

Today was a nice morning at the markets, lots of cool clothes and nice sellers, it was also the only moment of sunshine before rain and wind ruined the potential perfect day. Today I also guided a friend from work around the markets for her first ever time, helping her haggle with prices and pick out some nice pieces. She ended up with a great haul and I think shes' now hooked with talk of her coming earlier next week!
My haul from today consisted of a really cute jumpsuit by Guess that I can't wait to wear with simple black heels and a statement ring.
This simple and floaty leopard print dress is an awesome basic for me that I can just throw on on the days that I am feeling lazy, yet will still be able to look stylish.
These knit shorts are so perfect, the fine cable knit detail is lovely and understated, and I can just imagine pairing them with some strappy sandals and a basic white tee.
These faux suede shorts from Mink Pink are a perfect fit and such a bargain for just $5!
I have been on the look out for a sleek white blazer for weeks now, and while this isn't completely the style I was after, it has been the white blazer I have seen without any stains on it and for just $3.50 I think I can make this work.

Next Sunday I'm thinking of doing a post that includes tips for shopping at a market, or maybe I can post a new tip each week so you will just have to keep reading!

Sunday Project

While this blog is mainly a platform to post all my thoughts and ideas on fashion, it is not my only interest, as I also have a passion for interior design. My room is so full of clothes, books and furniture that it is hard to find space to put ornaments and other bits and pieces, so my only place for creativity is on my walls, which for the past few years have been covered in band posters, ticket stubs and photos of my friends and I. However recently I have felt the need for change, to take down some of the photos of people I no longer really speak to, to remove the posters of bands from my childhood and to replace them all with my own artwork and favourite fashion images from magazines.
Hopefully this will be a fun Sunday project and I will have photos up when I am finally finished! IN the meantime here are the images that are inspiring me...

NYFW: As Seen By Tommy Ton

I've been struggling to keep up with all the shows from New York Fashion Week (so many designers, too many clothes to drool over!), but have been regularly keeping in check with Tommy Tons' street style snaps on Style.com. I find that while it is fun to look at the collections on the runway, it is way more interesting and inspirational to see how regular people interpret the trends into something entirely their own. So here are my favourites from NYFW....

Happy Friday and have a great weekend!
