This Week I Am...

Inspired By...Casual Outfits. I've been working hard on uni projects last week so am currently feeling a bit drained, and my outfits seem to get more casual and comfier as the days go on to reflect that. So I have been taking inspiration from off duty models and their basic outfits, and am trying to emulate casual cool instead of casual slob.
Wanting...Thigh high boots. I remember this look being very on trend a few years ago however felt that it was quite "stripper-esque", yet gradually have changed my mind, thinking that a pair of black thigh highs would look really cool over basic black stockings and a colourful shift dress.
Wearing...Pattern. I want to break up my routine of outfits made up of basic block colours (or plain black and white) with some bold prints and patterns.
Listening to...Remixes. I've been following a very cool YouTube channel majesticcasual for a couple of weeks and have been consistantly supplied with some awesome remixes of already great songs.

Happy Monday!

Sunday Market Haul: Part 14

Once again I have reverted back to buying typically black and white pieces at the markets. I just can't help myself, they are my favourite colours (shades?) to wear and I have such a hard time trying to find well designed coloured clothing as it is usually in a style that I would just never wear or has a ridiculous print on it that makes it look like something you would buy from Kmart.
The above shawl was just $3 and is probably my favourite purchase today. I have started to love wearing very flowing and oversized outerwear and the print of this is just amazing.
I have finally bought myself a black denim jacket and this one was only $5! I'm thinking I'll spray some diluted bleach on it to give it a more worn look,
I did very well once again in the jewellery department, this week finding lots of long necklaces rather than statement necklaces like last week. They were all roughly $2.

I picked up this button up shirt/dress today for $3, I don't usually wear things like this but I thought I would give it a try. It also has an open back meaning that I need to figure out a way to wear it without it showing off the love handles my bras give me haha.
This grey tshirt dress was just $2, I love good basics like this.
Finally I bought this dress from a friend of mine who was selling today for just $1, I think it will look cool with a shunky knit cardigan and a long necklace and some combat boots.

xx

Tip Ten: Pay the sellers in coins ($1 and $2) because it is considerate to them as they often don't have enough change to give just to one person. Avoid paying with $20 and $50 (especially!) notes unless you are buying many items.

Country and Western

Another trend that I am anticipating for Summer is Western, and I don't mean flannel check shirts, I'm thinking tassels, leather, ponchos and buckles. I've been thinking this recently as I seem to keep finding or receiving western style items, my black vest I bought at an opshop, the poncho was given to me as a gift from my nan, the necklace was from City Beach, the belt I bought at the markets, and the metal shoe buckles my dad found when cleaning out his closet.
I never used to like the western trend when it would come into fashion, as the flannel shirts would always remind me of a typical Australian bogan (google it). However after seeing some very cool western style accessories recently (like that awesome UNIF concho hat) I have been converted!

Apologies for not being as consistent as usual with what I am posting, I have been working on some really big uni projects that I can't wait to share with you soon!

This Week I Am...

Inspired By...Mexicana Fashion. I can see all this bright colour and pattern becoming really popular very soon, especially in the summer months and am already thinking how I could inject small hints of this trend into my winter looks. I'm thinking an embroidered clutch, OTT beaded jewellery or a pom pom headpiece.
Wanting...A Chain Headpiece. A little late on this trend, however I am only really starting to like it now, thinking the look could either be really bohemian or add a bit of freedom to a matching pant suit outfit.
Wearing...Stripes. I think these will be huge for this season and in anticipation have already stocked up on some very cool basics that I can't wait to play around with (guess which one will be featured in this weeks' outfit post!)
Listening to...Girls Love Beyonce by Drake (feat. James Fauntleroy). Again this week I am listening to rap, which is really bizzare for me as I am typically a mainstream or rock listener, however I am enjoying the momentary change!
Happy Monday!

Sunday Market Haul: Part Thirteen

It is getting harder and harder to get out of bed on the mornings of the markets as I have usually stayed up until 12am the night before, and my bed is just too cozy to be rejected, especially in the winter months. However after 4 alarms I manage to muster up the courage to get out of bed and it is almost always worth it!
Today I picked up some incredible pieces of jewellery, the total of all the pieces in the picture above being just $10! They're all really tribal and ethnic looking and I can't wait to wear them as statement pieces over simple black and white shirts.
This wet look denim skirt was just $3.
I don't usually go for shirts like this, but I really liked the geometric pattern and the cut out shoulder detail. I picked it up for $3 and am thinking of wearing it over a colourful pair of pants or a maxi skirt with a pair of creepers!
I couldn't get a whole photo of this maxi dress I bought for $5, but I can assure you it is a beautiful silky fabric that flows really well. Again I don't usually go for outfits like this, but I was drawn to the etheral and boho look of it, and it reminded me of something that Nicole Ritchie would wear!
My final purchase today were these boots for just $2 and I am completely in love. They are so soft and comfortable and look very similar to a pair that a famous designer whose name I cannot think of right now designed a few months back, and I am so happy I can finally replicate the trend!

xx

Tip Nine: Today it sprinkled down lightly with rain and instead of bringing along an umbrella and trying to juggle it while looking through racks of clothing, I simply wore a raincoat with a hood that covered my face and kept me dry. Like the scouts say, always be prepared!

Statement Rings

I seem to just keep adding and adding to my ring collection, and with the addition of two new rings after being convinced at a recent Lovisa sale, I have been prompted to look at how to actually wear my statement rings instead of just buying more.
This week I want to try and wear at leats one, maybe two, statement rings with a bunch of dainty, thin bands on my other fingers, and a few other smaller rings. I'm really liking the bohemian style of layering with tonnes of jewellery.

I think just wearing one or two statement rings might be better than just wearing them all...

MBFWA: Trend Report

I was wanting to create a trend report myself of MBFWA after looking at all the pictures from the shows, however I was unable to find a website that showed all the runway photos! So I've looked at the Marie Claire website and their trend report for this years MBFWA and I have to say I agree with their analysis of the shows, as I have been waiting for a few of these trends to finally appear in Australia after seeing them for so long on the pages of American bloggers. This years' MBFWA was definately memorable, with many great shows, demonstrating the talent of our homegrown designers and also making me realise how important it is to support our local designers!

This Week I Am...

Inspired By...Christine Centenera. The Harpers Bazaar Fashion Editor whose wardrobe I'm sure women everywhere would love to covet. I don't think I've ever seen her put a foot wrong in her outfits, and I absolutely idolize her style, she puts together looks that are the perfect mix between basics and statement pieces.
Wanting...a broad rimmed black felt hat. If only I could find one that could fit my gigantic head! It would be the perfect accessory to pair with a hippy like maxi dress or a pair of black denim cutoffs and a leather jacket.
Wearing...my sunglasses. This week my dad hung up on my wall this converted photo frame he found on the side of the road (it was verge collection time) which I now use as my sunglasses storage space. It is right next to my door meaning I have no excuse to leave the house without one on my many pairs of sunglasses! (I also have another 10 pairs that didn't fit on the string without falling off :S, I think I have a slight addiction!)
Listening to...Iggy Azalea, an Australian rapper. I listened to one of her songs the other day on YouTube just out of interest and I can't get it out of my head. I'm not too sure whether I like her style or not, she seems to put on a strange accent when she raps, however the tune of the songs themselves are what get to me!
Apologies for not posting this yesterday, it just completely slipped my mind while working on my uni projects, when I finish my final pieces I will definately have to share them with you all!

Sunday Market Haul: Part Twelve

This morning was dreary outside, it was still pitch black, an indication I am too obsessed with the markets and that winter is coming, and it was sprinkling with rain. I didn't think that there would be a very good turn out today, however there were plenty of sellers just not as many selling clothes, but I still managed to find a few very cool pieces.
Above are the sunglasses I bought today, the leopard print on the top left for $4, the clear green pair on the top right for $5, and the orange reflective pair for $2. I hadn't bought sunglasses at the markets before, and today was the first day I found myself actually looking since I have been on the hunt for a cool pair of leopard print ones.
This real leather skirt was $3 and is DIY bound, I plan on hacking up the bottom and layering over another skirt to create an asymmetrical look.
I really liked the cut out details on the arms of this jumper I bought for $2, and think it will look really cool with my leather shorts.
I am always expanding my jewllery collection and also think I have a slight addiction. The ring on the left was $2, the ring on the right $1, the silver chainlink bracelet was an old Mimco one which I scored for $5, and the turquoise bracelet was $3.
These were the bangles I was talking about in last weeks market haul post. After watching Lynn Dell videos on YouTube, and the Sex and the City movie I have been inspired to be more "out there" with my fashion choices, to go with bold colours and statement accessories.

xx

Tip Eight: It was so dark this morning I could hardly see anything, but I saw a few people walking around with torches. That to me shows you're a hardcore market goer and I personally would feel so self conscious and invasive, so my suggestion is to subtley whip out the torch app on your phone when you are looking through boxes. OR, if you are selling, have a lamp so people can see your stuff clearly!

Good Ol' Aussie Streetstyle

Just a quick post before I go to bed showing my favourite Tommy Ton streetstyle snaps from the Mercedes Benz Australian Fashion Week which ended today, oh how I wish I was there! Looking at some of these photos has prompted me to think that we here in Aus actually have a plethora of amazingly stylish people (even some better than those around the world, sorry international readers, I still love you!) After being glued to my instagram feed for pics of all the shows, I have been left so inspired for the next few months, and next week will do a post about my top trends from MBFWA!

Hoping you will have a fabulous weekend!
