This Week I Am...

Inspired By...ways to wear tartan. A trend that I think has filtered down from the punk themed MET Ball earlier this year, has become less punk and more feminine and demure. On my wish list right now is a red tartan pencil skirt.
Wanting...a long fur colourful scarf. I always liked the fur scarves that Prada came out with what feels like 2 years ago and am finally wanting to jump on the bandwagon.
Wearing...my coin necklace from Sportsgirl. They had this same necklace last year and for so long I had regretted not buying it, especially seeing some of my favourite Aussie bloggers styling it, so I am so happy that Sportsgirl decided to restock it!
Listening to...Hold on, we're going home by Drake. Such a beautiful song but horrible music video.

Sunday Market Haul: Part 30

It seems like forever since I did my last market haul post, however with storms and few people turning up, there wasn't anything to share. Today I struck a bit of luck with this vintage blouse for $2, it is a bit plain however I liked the grid pattern and the sheer quality of the fabric.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

The Tan

I've been on the hunt for the perfect tan sandal for a while now, and since then I've been liking all tan acccessories, so I thought I'd share some of my favourites with you.

This Week I Am...

Inspired By...beautifully designed brand logos. This is the graphic designer in me coming out, as from this week all I will have on my mind is logos, designs and more logos.
Wanting...A fur top. It seems a little crazy, but I actually think they look really cool!
Wearing...My new gold claw ring from Lovisa. When my boyfriend was having his hair cut the other day I popped into Lovisa and found this super cool ring which is a copy of some big brands' design which was popular last year.
Listening to...Gorilla by Bruno Mars. After hearing this song on the radio I have been in love!

I cannot believe I forgot to post this yesterday, I'm usually so good! However I do admit the blog has been second/third/fourth to some of my other priorities at the moment so forgive me, its just the way uni is right now!

Finally Mine!

If you look back to my feature on the Sportsgirl Summer Roadshow you would find that after seeing this necklace I was in love and just waiting for it to turn up in store, and finally it was delivered yesterday! It is so perfect and I just cannot wait to start wearing it, I'm thinking of pairing it with the co-ord that I showed you guys in my Monday post (perfect weekend outifit!).

This Week I Am...

Inspired By...Platform sneakers/loafers. I have never really been fond of this more boyish/grunge side of the platform trend, simply preferring my strappy black ones from Wittner. However since my friend Bre (who has just started her own blog which you can check out here) has bought a pair of platform converse online, I've started to like this trend a bit more!
Wanting...Cool clutches. I've been wearing lots of plain outfits lately in basic colours and am wanting to invest in a few more handbags and clutches that can be the statement of my outfit!
Wearing...My new co-ord outfit from Sportsgirl. It you remember back to this post, you would know that I have been on the lookout for the perfect co-ord, and I have finally found it! I really love the tropical print and the mint colour suits my skin tone. I can't wait to wear this look when the horrible weather stops here in Perth, and I also can't wait to wear it to the Beyonce concert later this year!
Listening to...Beat it by Sean Kingston, Chris Brown and Wiz Khalifa. I seem to be listening to a lot of rap and RNB lately...not my usual style but oh well!

Trial

Two products that I am currently testing out; Gradual Tan from Sportsgirl because I've been looking just a bit too albino these days and thought that for the first time ever I should start using fake tan, and a Facial Cleanser from Lush because my skin has dried out a bit.
I will let you know how I go with these new products!

The Perfect Leopard Jacket

Just a quick post today showing off the leopard print fur jacket that I picked up at the Polka Dot Vintage Markets a couple of weeks back. Currently I am swamped with a bunch of assignments that are all due at around the same time!

This Week I Am...

Inspired By...The mid-thigh denim short. I've been seeing lots of streetstyle pictures where women are wearing a longer style short (which is a nice change from the micro mini shorts) typically with a basic tshirt and jacket. However I think because of my height the length may look awkward on me, perhaps an old pair of jeans need a make over and can be my test run!
Wanting...Any shoes that are not black. I was tidying up my little shoe cubby last night and I just could not believe how many black pairs of shoes I own. Yes they go with anything and don't obviously show when they are dirty, however I think it is time for me to diversify!
Wearing...Lots of bold, bohemian silver rings. I feel like stacking my fingers with a combination of bold and delicate rings (similar to Pheobe in Friends) and will be wearing these ones from Sportsgirl the most this week!
Listening to...Almost is Never Enough by Adriana Grande and Nathan Sykes. After hearing this song at my gym I have not stopped listening to it, so beautiful!

Sunday Market Haul: Part 29

I woke up very happy this morning to see an almost clear sky and a nearly full markets! Today turned out to be all about the skirt for me, particularly the pencil skirt. Although it is not usually a flattering length on me, I wanted to give this trend a go and I actually ended up finding skirts that fit me perfectly and were a great colour.
The above skirt is an old one (but looks hardly worn) from Forever New which is probably my favourite from today. I picked it up for $2.50
This skirt belonged to one of my friends from work who was down there selling today, and she was lovely and gave it to me for $2.
A very cool orange vintage skirt that I bought for $2.50
This cardigan looks better on, but is a good staple for $3.
Biggest steal of today, I found these hardly worn flatforms for just $5!

I also bought 25 old Vogue magazines for $5, all of my future research for fashion assignments is completed! So today was definately a good day.

Espadrille

After noticing lots of bloggers wearing Chanels' espadrilles I thought that the espadrille trend was something that I would like to try out. I'm usually extremely fussy when it comes to my shoes, so I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered this pair from Seed Heritage were so comfy! I can see these being a very good replacement for my Havaiana thongs for spring/summer and plan on pairing them with little white dresses or light denim cut off shorts.
Since I have never owned a pair of espadrilles before I put together a little inspiration post for myself on what I could potentially wear with them!

I am very tempted now to get the leopard print leather version of mine, however I think I will just give my stripe ones a test run first.

Feature Article: Am I an online shopping addict?

A bit of a different post today, I've recently had to write a short feature article for my magazine feature writing class at uni and I've written about the topic of online shopping addiction. So I thought I would share it with my readers as a way to get my writing out there into the world! Also just an FYI, I am not an online shopping addict I dramatised my own situation to make my article sound good haha, I don't have a constant stream of parcels arriving at my door. So to the 3 people who will probably read this, thank you and I hope you enjoy!

It began with eBay, searching for the occasional craft product, knowing I could find it cheaper online, and tentatively using my parents’ credit card with their permission of course. However, with the coming of age and the inevitable ownership of a debit card, I was unleashed in the online shopping universe and have spent the last 15 days checking my mailbox incessantly for my package from Missguided.com to arrive. So is that addiction or just being eager?

We often hear the same story when it comes to online shopping addiction, women who accumulate enormous debt, buying things they don’t need that often go unused hidden in the back of a closet and their lives falling apart because of their debt. April Lane Benson is a Manhattan based psychologist who was quoted in Amanda Fairbanks’ 2011 Huffington Post article ‘Guilt Addicts Anonymous: The Daily Online Flash Sale Fixation’ as saying that telltale symptoms of shopping addiction are using shopping as a quick fix for feeling down, buying more than what they intended, feeling buyers-regret where they feel guilty after a purchase and hiding their purchases from family and friends. Often the cause of this addiction is rooted in underlying issues like depression and anxiety. So as I sit in a lecture that I am supposed to be listening to scrolling through the newest arrivals at princesspolly.com.au easily accessible on my tablet, I wonder if this is the path that I am heading down.

I will admit I wasn’t always a fan of the online shopping scene. I was one of those obsessive compulsive types who spent hours in a shopping centre going into every store, looking at every item making sure I didn’t miss out on a bargain. I needed to be able to try everything on, I liked being able to touch the fabric and see the quality, it had to pass the does-this-feel-itchy test. Mostly however, I enjoyed the shopping experience; it was an escape, adventure and a pleasure.

However as I began to admire the online fashion bloggers in the northern-hemisphere who had access to the trends hot off the runway before Australia caught up with the times, I grew tiresome and impatient of the lag between what I thought was trendy now and what would be in stores in 6 months time. So I began to shop where they shopped, and I was introduced to a whole new world of stores right at my fingertips. Armed with my debit card and my very own Paypal account came the first purchase, and with that came another and then another, a steady stream of parcels delivered straight to my door.

The excitement of this new purchase is palpable until I click the ‘purchase’ button where I then feel consumed with worry and just a touch of guilt. What if it doesn’t look good? Was that just a waste of money? Did I really need that? What if it never arrives? With these feelings of stress and guilt I wonder, is it really all worth it? However after days of waiting there is the reliable knock at the door and the subsequent excitement as the delivery man hands me my package and I sign on the dotted line. I scurry back to my room with my loot in hand and as I tear open the packaging I am filled with suspense and joy, ready to blog about my latest purchases to the world.

When it comes to shopping online, it can often feel like you are not using real money. The purchase is made so quickly with just a few clicks and your details remembered from a previous purchase, that before you know it a package is on its way and you have moved on to the next website checking their new arrivals. Unlike others facing addiction, I find I retain some self-control, not allowing my purchases to blow out knowing that my debit card has its limits.

So why does shopping make me feel so good? And why do I keep doing it? I think it’s because I admire the women behind my favorite fashion blogs so much that I aspire to be like them. Their lives in blog form seem to be so perfect that during my personal times of stress and anxiety my subconscious thinks that having the same clothes they do will make others believe that I have my life altogether too. Is that a sign of low self-esteem? Perhaps a professional opinion is needed on that one.

Alas the question remains, is there hope for a fashion-obsessed-soon-to-be-20-year-old-with-a-credit-card-and-taste-for-high-end-labels? In the fashion world I want to be in, probably not, with the pressure to keep up with the times and stay on trend. So I just hope that the fear of paying full retail and the bargain hunter within me remains strong.

This Week I Am...

Inspired By...anything scuba. I really like its shiny, sturdy quality and how everything made from it looks futuristic. The whole minimalist/sporty trend has been catching my eye lately.
Wanting...a stripe co-ord outfit. According to my fabulous trend predictions in Fashion Merchandising (ha ha) I think the co-ord trend will be perfect for the upcoming summer season, so I am trying to stock up on the best pieces!
Wearing...my new basic singlet from Sportsgirl. While it may not be necessarily the best weather for this type of top, I have been looking for the perfect one for months and can hardly wait to wear it!
Listening to...Let the Groove Get In by Justin Timberlake. After his amazing VMA's performance last week, I have been listening to JT nonstop.

Sunday Market Haul: Part 28

Today was Fathers' Day so I hope you all had a lovely day celebrating! This also meant like the past couple of weeks that there wasn't many sellers down at the markets, yet I still managed to find a few bargains all for just $2 each.
The above top is not something that I would usually wear, however the whole Mexican/South American fiesta vibe I think will be very cool this Summer. So I am imagining wearing this with a simple pair of denim cut offs, white sandals and a colourful bag to match.
While this dress appears to be nothing too special, it reminds me of the whole pyjama trend that was popular about 2 years ago, and I think it would be an easy, simple dress to throw on over my bikini to go to the beach.
Finally these aqua pants from are an old pair by Topshop and will be a good to wear at uni to break up all the jeans I have been wearing recently.

Hope you had a great weekend!
